Ben and Chase love playing together... which is awesome... but they also love tearing things apart together. It's become their new favorite thing to do lately. I'm not sure if it's a new stage Ben is growing into... or if Chase is old enough to start leading these brigades because Ben never seemed to do this kind of stuff. But Chase has always been the one to get into any and every cupboard and drawer and tear everything apart. Anyways... it seems that Chase has graduated to whole closets... although I'm not sure which child is really leading the whole thing.
Just today they have managed to empty their closet and the linen closet in the hall... all the way to the top shelf.
Anyways... here are a few pictures of Ben and Chase's closet that I had so neatly organized a few weeks ago. I went through all their toys and stored half of them in a different room and had it to where the big trucks were on the shelf and then there were a few bins with toys that we could ever so neatly pull out and put back away easily... what a dream. Every day they would pull out every toy and every night I'd put them all back ever so nicely... and then today they decided to pull out all the toys... and every other single item in the closet.
I had put all the painting supplies in the corner of the kitchen under the drop cloth, including the roller that I had wrapped in a plastic sack to keep the paint fresh. While I was in my room getting ready to go out with Boyd I thought Ben and Chase were being suspiciously too quiet. I walked out to see that they had painted all over the floor, the fridge, and all over themselves. Every article of clothing they had on was ruined.
You might be thinking, "wow... what a horrible mother... can't you keep track of your kids?" But they did this within 2 minutes! Boyd was home too and he had just been out in the living room with them. Thankfully all of it came off of the fridge and most of it came off the floor.

Here is our bedroom I painted...
and our living room I painted.
Anyways... for the most part I've stayed calm through all of this destruction... but I'm about to give up and never pick up after them again. I heard someone say once that "picking up when you have children is like shoveling the side walk while it's still snowing." I would have to agree.

oh. wow.
that is insane!!!! you've got some skilled boys on your hands! wish i had suggestions, but i've got a super messy boy as well... good luck!
How heartbreaking!!! I know exactly how you feel. I have 2 little boys too that are quite crazy. I know exactly what it is like to organize just so and have hours of work ripped apart in minutes!! I, too, have tried very hard to be calm. I am hoping to be the most patient of all people by the time my kids are grown.
OMG, those boys!!! I love the paint though, I wish I could see it in person! :)
Excuse me! "I painted" I demand some recognition here! Haha just kidding. I will say that being on the phone with you when you found Ben, Chase and all the paint in the kitchen was the highlight of my day. I'm sorry, but I was laughing really hard when I told Brandon what happened.
I would ignore the organization for a few days and just join in with the chaos. Help them build a castle with blankets and boxes in their room and leave it for a few days. If you can't beat 'em join 'em right?
Sorry, this is Kristin by the way just realized I'm signed in as my ever so handsome husband!
I wish you had taken a picture of the paint destruction!
*sigh* all of this sounds so familiar. Two boys together = never-ending mess. But at least they're not TRYING to make us crazy.
Or ARE they?
ugh, its amazing how such little things can make such big messes!! jagger just drags stools or chairs around to get what he wants higher up. it drives me nuts b/c i'm also afraid he'll get hurt. i just refused to clean up after jagger since i was pregnant and physically couldn't and he started doing it on his own. or i'll tell him he has to do it before we do something fun, and it usually works. good luck :)
Awesome. At least it's not poo, right? :) amen to the hating to clean up. We had a garbage bag monster for awhile that ate toys left out after clean up time and didn't give them back for a week. That worked well. Now we have the toys in drawers in two toy towers (Tupperware dresserlike things) and the girls can only play with a few drawers at once and if they don't get cleaned up the whole drawer gets a stop sign on it for aweek. It's been working okay. But kids will be kids. I miss our daily walks. Tell Boyd to get a phd and then teach at the same school Brian does!
PS I like your paint jobs. :)
By the way, this is Tiffany. I guess I'm in brian's account
AHHHHHHHHhhhh! What gets me is that they get to the top shelf. My boys are climbers too but they aren't as creative and quite. Love you! You are a good mom. Keep taking the pictures. It makes for really great blog post. I enjoy it. :)
Holy cow. I would've freaked! I have no suggestions... sounds exactly like Steve and his brother when they were little. His mom couldn't go to the bathroom for 2 minutes and they had destroyed something. Goodluck! By the way, I love your house!!
holy crap. i think i would have taken that very badly. good luck girl!
I've been thinking about physics. Everything really does go toward entropy--chaos. Especially with 2 young boys at home! At least they are cute. If they are driving you too crazy, wait until they are asleep and then peek in on them. Then you will remember why you love them so much! In the mean time, go out and enjoy some beautiful SC February sunshine!
P.S. I'm glad to see you are getting more use out of that ladder than I would be if were sitting in my garage. :)
Oh my goodness-- I would go crazy! My boys do the same sort of thing recently-- they just egg eachother on... argh! BUT, look at Chase's big smile-- he's so stinkin' cute!! :)
oh my gosh that is bad! why to stay calm, I think my kids would be in time out FOREVER!!!! by the way, found your blog :)
Kathryn... this cracks me up!
You have some real talent. Perhaps you should introduce them to rock climbing... basketball... something to put those unique skills to use.
Mine do something similar, but I haven't had any paint involved... yet.
